In the city of London, the number of motorists has fallen by 64% since 1999 and the number of cyclists has increased by 386%. Walking still remains the dominant way people travel within the city according to a councillors report but the amount of pedestrians is below pre-pandemic figures at the moment and the amount of motor vehicles is also 80% of what they were before the pandemic.
According to the traffic order paper to councillors, the long-term trends observed from data received from 12 sites across London since 1999 show that car volumes continue to decline and cycle volumes continue to increase.
