Children and teens are increasingly managing their digital habits to protect their mental health and focus, often choosing to limit screen time voluntarily. Since 2022, 12- to 15-year-olds taking regular device breaks has grown by 18%, with around 40% consciously reducing use.
Experts note young people recognise social media’s harms and use strategies like breaks, app deletion, or muting notifications, often influenced by peers. Ofcom’s 2024 report confirms more youth find their screen time excessive and actively limit distractions, a positive move for well-being.
Campaigners call this a “quiet rebellion” against addictive platforms. Many youths feel worse after social media use, and some regret early smartphone access. Nearly half support less internet or digital curfews, showing a desire for balance.
Through mindful unplugging, today’s youth are reshaping their digital lives for better health.
