Ever wondered what happens to Hotel Soap?

Millions of hotel soap bars are discarded daily due to hygiene protocols, despite minimal use. Organisations like Eco-Soap Bank, Soap Aid, and Soap for Hope collect and recycle this soap to support hygiene in underserved communities.

Founded in 2014, Eco-Soap Bank repurposes discarded soap from hotels and factories, diverting over 14 million pounds from landfills and addressing global hygiene inequality. Research suggests such efforts could significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and water waste.

Australia’s Soap Aid, active since 2011, has repurposed over 380 metric tons of soap globally. In Canada, Soap for Hope, launched in 2015 by C. Anne McIntyre, distributes soap, toiletries, and linens to over 500 community organisations. In 2024, a hotel partnership helped them divert 6,500 pounds of waste.

Soap recycling is logistically complex but highlights growing environmental and social awareness. Once considered waste, soap now helps combat hygiene poverty and restore dignity worldwide.
