World’s largest solar power plant to be built in Australia

Australia has approved the construction of the world’s largest solar power plant, led by local company SunCable, with a budget of $24 billion.

The project, to be completed by 2030, will generate 20 GW of electricity, with two-thirds powering 3 million Australian homes and the rest transmitted to Singapore via a 4,300 km underwater cable. This plant will cover 12,000 hectares in northern Australia and include an 800 km transmission line to Darwin.

Environmental approval was granted after assurances were made to protect local wildlife.

Once operational, the plant will surpass China’s current largest solar facility (8 GW), positioning Australia as a leader in green energy.

However, concerns remain about solar panel waste, and the government continues to reject nuclear energy due to its high costs and long development times.
