In 2025, the Schweizer Tafel food bank saved 8,500 tonnes of food from waste—an 11% increase from 2024—and distributed it to people in need. Improved deep-freeze logistics, optimised collection routes, and support from the food industry helped achieve this.
The food, worth CHF61.8 million ($77 million) and equivalent to 1.7 million 5kg shopping bags, was donated to soup kitchens, shelters, women’s refuges, and other social institutions, preventing 14,205 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Founded in 2001, Schweizer Tafel collects surplus food and non-food items daily from retailers and industry partners. Similarly, “Tischlein deck dich” saved 9,000 tonnes of food last year, continuing a 26-year upward trend.
