At Eco Expo Central Asia 2025, attended by delegates from over 30 countries and 20 international organisations, Uzbekistan unveiled two major environmental initiatives: expanding ecological recovery in Karakalpakstan and launching a national green certification system for businesses.
Over 2 million hectares of vegetation have been planted on the dried Aral Sea seabed, reducing dust storms and improving local ecosystems. The government now plans to introduce biosaline agriculture, climate-resilient farming, and sustainable water use to further transform Karakalpakstan into a sustainable development model.
A new national green certification programme will help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) adopt eco-friendly practices. Supported by green banks and development partners, the initiative aims to improve access to financing and change perceptions of environmental standards.
The Expo’s Karakalpakstan pavilion highlighted these efforts and encouraged global cooperation. UN Resident Coordinator Sabine Mahl praised Uzbekistan’s approach as a strong example of balancing climate action with social equity.
The Expo served not only as a showcase of technologies but also as a platform to shape future green policies and sustainable growth in Central Asia.
